Wenty Golf moves into the age of AI — with the help of Goblin Local Services

Hire a golf cart and it only switches on once it's paid for. Wentworth Golf Club has moved its day-to-day onto artificial intelligence — something the club believes no other club in the region is doing — and it's putting the system to work for its biggest day of the year: the Fred Campbell $10,000 Hole in One Ambrose on Sunday 18 October. The club runs cart hire, competitions, members, bookings and payments on a system built by Goblin Local Services, a local technology business. Golfers book and pay for carts online at wentygolf.com or at a self-serve card kiosk at the club, and a cart is only switched on once it's paid for. GPS confirms when a cart comes back, and if a hired cart doesn't move, strays outside the course boundary or its battery runs low, the system texts the manager. Golfers have hired carts this way since July. "As a small group of volunteers running a large facility, we are very time poor," said club President Pete Trevathan. "We have opted to leverage our time and improve our services by gradually introducing AI-driven solutions where appropriate." The Ambrose is the first big test of the club's online registration. Teams of four register and pay online at wentygolf.com/ambrose — $50 a player or $200 a team — with a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one on the 17th. Places are capped at 128 players, and registrations close on Friday 16 October at 5pm. Goblin Local Services builds the same system for other local businesses and clubs.
