Privacy Policy
Effective date: 3 October 2026
1. Who we are
Goblin Social (goblinsocial.com) is run by Goblin Local Services, a registered Australian business name, ABN 11 413 264 510. In this policy "we" and "us" means Goblin Local Services. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles. Our etiquette is simple: do the right thing — we collect only what we need, keep it locked down, and never sell it.
2. What we collect
- Business listings — a business's name, address, category, hours, services, website, and a contact phone and email. Most of this is public business information; contact details are stored encrypted.
- Your account — if you sign in, your mobile number (we text you a one-time code to sign in) and the name you choose. Phone numbers are stored encrypted.
- Votes and ratings — which businesses you vote for, so we can keep the rankings fair.
- Messages you send us — enquiries through our contact forms, emails to sales@goblinsocial.com, and anything you tell our AI assistant on the phone.
- If you own a business — the details you give us when you claim or manage your listing.
- Payments — if you pay us, your card is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- Basic technical information — like most websites, our server keeps short-lived logs (such as IP address and pages visited) to keep the site secure and working.
3. How we use it
- To run the directory and show business listings to the people searching for them, including AI assistants (like ChatGPT) that look up public business information on Goblin Social.
- To sign you in, count your votes, and answer your enquiries.
- To pass an enquiry about a business to that business, or to the local Goblin Local Services partner for your area, when that is what you asked us to do.
- To invite a business to claim and check its own free listing.
- To check listings are accurate and to stop fraud — including false claims on a business.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising profiles.
4. What is public
Business listings are public — that is the point of a directory. Personal contact details of people (as opposed to a business's own published contact details) are never shown publicly. Our partners' private phone numbers are never published.
5. Who we share it with
Only the services we need to run Goblin Social, and only what each one needs:
- Hostinger — our web hosting and email.
- Stripe — card payments.
- Twilio — text messages (sign-in codes and replies) and our phone line.
- ElevenLabs — our AI phone assistant. Calls to our AI assistant may be recorded and transcribed so the assistant can answer and we can check it is answering properly.
- Nous Research — the AI service that helps us check listings and answer emails. We send it only what the task needs.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — to turn a business address into a map location. Only business addresses are sent.
- Our local partners — the Goblin Local Services partner for your area, when your enquiry is about their area.
Some of these services store information outside Australia (for example in the United States). We choose established providers and send them only what they need.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
6. Cookies and advertising
We use a sign-in cookie so you stay logged in. We do not put advertising or third-party tracking scripts (such as a Facebook pixel or Google Analytics) on goblinsocial.com. When we advertise on Facebook, we measure visits with a simple tag in the web address.
To learn which pages help people and which ones they leave, our own small script records, anonymously, how a visit went: the page, where the visit came from (for example a Facebook ad), whether you stayed, scrolled, searched or opened a listing, and roughly how long you stayed. It uses a random visit number kept only in your browser tab (not a cookie), stores your internet address only as a scrambled code, and never records your name, email or phone number. This information stays on our own server and is never shared or sold. If your browser sends "Do Not Track", the script does not run.
7. Keeping it safe
Contact details are encrypted in our database. Access to personal details is limited to what each person's job needs, and any access to sensitive details is logged. We keep information only as long as we need it to run the directory or meet our legal obligations.
8. Your choices
- See or correct your information — ask us and we will show you what we hold and fix anything that is wrong.
- Delete your account — ask us and we will remove it.
- Stop our emails — reply STOP to any invitation from us and we will not email you again.
- Your business listing — a business owner can claim their listing to correct it, or ask us to take it down.
9. Contact and complaints
Email sales@goblinsocial.com or ring 0485 089 116. If you are not happy with how we handle a privacy complaint, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
10. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top of this page.
